Exurb1a mentioned this in his first video on what he calls “catastrotivity.” Exurb1a defines this as a recognition that enjoyment of art is subjective, & a realization that you cannot please everyone. So you may as well make whatever you really wanna make. It seems no conincidence that he mentions why he makes art and listened to Ray Brabury’s legendary Farenheit 541. He mentioned having downloaded the audiobook, and sat in a park, and listening to that audiobook in the park til it was finished.
And I thought: what a wonderful thought, I may as well download the audiobook myself, the digital hoarder I am. And sure enough, I did go to a conservation area, and I did in fact listen to this audiobook all day til I am sat here @ 9:23PM.
Wow, just wow.
In the version I got my hands on today; there’s an afterword talking about book censorship, art, and the state of the world’s reaction to 451. This was honestly such a breath of fresh air that I needed more than anything. I love philosophy, I love writing, I love psychology, but I love poetry most of all. Playful & provocative, kind & strange, daring & content. This novel is full of dancing words & interesting dialogue & I cannot think of a more wonderful way to write anything, but especially a book about man who burns books for a living. I don’t know who read this version, but he did a fuckkiin’ fantastic job, holy hell.
